At KIKI London I had the privilege to make-up two brilliant and adorable models and one of them asked me what I do to make the eye shadow last longer and evenly on the eye crease…
So here we go… Like a painter primes his canvas before any oil paints can be applied, our eyelids need to be prepared before applying the shadows, it gives you control over the finished look 🙂
When you read make-up books you will find make-up artists explaining different techniques on how to prep your eyes for longer lasting make-up… but here is a tip; our eyes are one of the oiliest part of our face and as such need to be cleaned. You can ruin your look if your don’t clean the eyes crease before applying the shadow. Water-based cleanser or baby wipes work well for this.
Is the eyelids ready to get some colours on? No, not yet… Our eyelids have blue-reddish pigments due to little veins in the area which can spoil the real colour of the eye shadow that you want to apply, so it is suggested to use foundation so that it evens out the skin tone of your lid. There is no need to apply any moisturizer as the foundation itself has enough to do the job 🙂
Then just before applying the eye shadow, with a cotton pad, you gently dust a translucent powder over the lids. However, be careful not to end up with those cakey eyelids… If this happens wipe the foundation off and use a little less. You can also use translucent powder after applying the shadows to tone them down slightly or if you are using a cream shadow for more staying power.
I hope it helps… After all, your eyes are the windows to your soul and we need to make them look great!
